F.A.Q. Table of Contents:

(1) What are Smart Meters?

Smart Meters are wireless digital utility meters with additional electronic features that allow utilities and consumers to monitor energy usage. Smart meters are part of a new global plan to upgrade the world electrical grid to a Smart Grid to control regional energy consumption. They are being installed where your old electric and gas meters were located. Wireless water meters are also being planned in many regions. Smart Meter planning in the United States is related to the Energy Act of 2007 and administered by the US Dept of Energy, the FCC, and each state's public utilities commission (PUC). The local utility companies have been approved to install Smart Meters in every building that receives utilities in most of the states such as California and Michigan. Other states, such as Connecticut and Massachusetts, are taking a "wait and see" approach or establishing small pilot programs, due to concerns about health, safety, privacy, and security.

(2) How efficient is the RF Meter Shield in RF and EMF Radiation protection?

Attenuation is one of the principal indicators for measuring the effectiveness of electromagnetic interference shielding. It refers to the difference between an electromagnetic signal’s intensity before shielding and its intensity after shielding. Attenuation is marked in decibels (dB) that correspond to the ratio between field strength with and without the presence of a protective medium. The decrease in a signal’s intensity, or amplitude, is usually exponential with distance, while the decibel range falls along a logarithmic scale. This means that an attenuation rating of 50 dB indicates a shielding strength ten times that of 40 dB. In general, a shielding range of 10 to 30 dB provides the lowest effective level of shielding, while anything below that range can be considered little or no shielding. Shielding between 60 and 90 dB may be considered a high level of protection, while 90 to 120 dB is exceptional. Following is RF Meter Shield's Frequency Range and related Protection Attenuation Chart.

(3) Will radiation escape from other parts of the "Smart Meter" enclosure?
Smart meter enclosures are made of grounded metal on all sides except for the front glass (or plastic) globe. This metal enclosure acts as a RF and EMF shield and reflects the majority of radiation through the front globe. The front glass or plastic globe of a smart meter is where the majority of RF radiation is emitted (in all directions). A properly installed RF Meter Shield completes a shield around the entire smart meter (reducing radiation by over 80%). A minimal amount of RF and EMF radiation may still escapes through main feed wires to and from the meter. Since every installation is unique, after installing a RF Meter Shield, if you have concerns regarding smart meter radiation entering your home, we suggest you have your unique installation tested.

(4) What is RF Meter Shield's effective protection's life expectancy?

The RF Meter Shield's effective protection against RF and EMF Radiation will last 7-10 years enduring natures elements such as sun, rain, snow, sleet, hot temperatures and cold temperatures.

(5) Will the RF Meter Shield stay secure in strong winds?

Properly installed RF Meter Shields have been designed to stay secure in wind gusts up to 110 MPH.

(6) With the RF Meter Shield installed, will my "Smart Meter" still be able to communicate with the utility?

The RF Meter Shield does not block all of the transmitting and receiving RF signals. However, it does significantly reduce them. Low strength signals are still able to communicate with the utility.

(7) Will the RF Meter Shield fit over my "Smart Meter"?

RF Meter Shield Model: SX1000418 fits all smart meter glass covers up to a 6.5" diameter X 6.0" long (all known smart meters currently manufactured). The elastic end of the RF Meter Shield can be rolled-up to snug fit shorter glass covers. The existing metal enclosure housing the smart meter acts as a reflector, shielding everything except the glass cover which is shielded by the RF Meter Shield.

(8) Does RF Meter Shield offer volume discounts?

Yes. For retail customers (1-11) units, shipping is discounted. For wholesale customers (12 or more units) please contact us at: customerservice@RFMeterShield.com

(9) Can you recommend any other innovative energy related products?

Yes. The Hot Water Lobster Instant Hot Water Valve. This innovative hot water re-circulation valve not only saves energy, it also saves thousands of gallons of water each year. For more information, please visit www.HotWaterLobster.com.
